Identification of Sheep and Goats
- Individual identification of sheep and goats is a fundamental prerequisite for maintaining the central register.
- Individual identification ensures the determination of the identity of each animal and its origin with regard to the herd, place of birth, country of origin, as well as the determination of changes in location with regard to its herd and individual holders during its lifetime.
- Permanent identification of sheep or goats by two plastic ear tags, or one plastic ear tag and an electronic identifier, or one plastic ear tag only for sheep or goats up to 12 months of age intended for slaughter within the Slovak Republic, or by another method pursuant to a special regulation, only for animals that cannot be identified by a plastic ear tag (for health or other reasons). Animals identified in this way are not, in accordance with applicable regulations, intended for intra-Community trade.
Ear tags, information and documents required for maintaining the central register are provided by the regional offices of the Breeding Services of the Slovak Republic, state enterprise.
